Communication and Culture Postdoctoral Fellowship Guidelines

Communication and Culture Postdoctoral Fellowship Policy

The Faculty of Communication and Culture does not currently fund postdoctoral fellowships. However, we can accommodate a limited number of externally-funded (ie. SSHRC, NSERC, Killam) postdoctoral fellows each year. The faculty of Communication and Culture can provide resident fellows with a range of opportunities and supports. These may include:

- Shared office space, library access, printing.

- Teaching opportunities (subject to course availability)

- Scholarly exchange: fellows will have the opportunity to participate regularly and present their work at the weekly Communication and Culture Colloquium series.

- Professional development: fellows will be welcome to participate in faculty career and development seminars.

- Access to faculty research tools and labs

PROCESS:

1. Interested/prospective fellows should contact a faculty member directly and ask them if they would be willing to act as their Faculty Supervisor.

2. If the Faculty member is willing to act as Supervisor, s/he should forward information about the prospective fellow (CV, Research Proposal) to the RPDC.

3. The RPDC will consider requests to name Communication and Culture as host department for postdoctoral fellowships. In this, the RPDC will not act as an adjudicator of projects so much as a coordinator of requests for hosting. Because the faculty has limited office space and teaching opportunities available, the RPDC will determine the number of postdoctoral fellows that the faculty can support for the upcoming year and rank the prospective fellows.

4. The RPDC will contact faculty members to advise them of the availability of resources for prospective fellows.

If you are interested in holding an externally-funded postdoctoral fellowship in the Faculty of Communication and Culture, you should contact the faculty member you are interested in working with directly. Expressions of interest should be conveyed early in your application process: prior to September 1 of the year before you plan to take up the fellowship, if possible. A full listing of Faculty profiles and research areas is available on this website (LINK).
