Research:
Dr. Felske has also undertaken numerous historic resource impact
assessments and historical research projects for government, private
companies and local history groups associated with coal mining history.
He was the historical consultant for Parks Canada’s recent research on
the history of coal mining in Alberta. This work led to the creation of
three National Historic Sites in and around Coleman, at the Atlas Coal
Mine and Nordegg mine surface buildings.
Dr. Felske’s research also focuses on western urban culture and he is currently researching cultural history of the Calgary Stampede Parade. In 2004 he co-edited, with Dr. Beverly Rasporich, a collection of essays on the Canadian West entitled Challenging Frontiers: the Canadian West.

About:
Dr. Felske also heads a Mobility in Higher Education Grant funded by
Human Resources Skills Development that funds students for a term
abroad in the United States and/or Mexico. He has also been responsible
for bringing the annual International Summer Seminar, funded by the
International Council for Canadian Studies, to Western Canada. In 2006
the annual meeting of the International Council for Canadian Studies
will be held at the University of Calgary. Delegates from over 70
countries having Canadian Studies programs at their universities will
be attending the event.
