The Many Faces of Stampede

Department of Communication and Culture Professor Max Foran explains the history and significance of the Calgary Stampede. Max has written extensively on various western Canadian urban, rural and cultural topics with a present focus on ranching, and the urban growth and sustainability process. A long time teacher and former educational administrator, he sees the teaching process as underpinning all other academic endeavours. Current research focuses on urban land development.

Visiting Scholar prepares to leave

Sally Wyatt, 2010 Killam Visiting Scholar winner, is preparing to return to the Netherlands, where she works at Maastricht University and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts & Sciences. Wyatt, who spent the Winter 2012 semester in the Department of Communication and Culture, says the opportunity to focus on her academic work without the administrative demands of her home institutions was a boon.

AJN Book of the Year in Consumer Health

Department of Communication and Culture Professor Chloë Atkins has been named as the winner of the 2011 American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year award in the category of Consumer Health for her book My Imaginary Illness: A Journey Into Uncertainty and Prejudice in Medical Diagnosis. Congratulations to Professor Atkins for this achievement

 

Dr. Michael Keren Invited To Present his New Book in London

Dr. Michael Keren has been invited to present his co-authored book with Dr. Shlomit Keren, We Are Coming, Unafraid: The Jewish Legions and the promised Land in the First World War in Jewish Book Week, "the leading international festival of Jewish thought and ideas," to be held in London in February 2012. Other presenters this year include Aharon Apelfeld, Zygmunt Bauman, Umberto Eco, Jonathan Safran Foer, and others
